The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government. The strike, which began on November 1, 2025, was called off following an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting.
The MoU addresses seven key conditions, with two already met: the release of the Professional Allowance Table and the adoption of CONMESS 3 as the entry level for doctors. The remaining five demands, including payment of promotion arrears, salary arrears, and implementation of specialist allowances, are expected to be fulfilled within four weeks.
NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, warned that if the government fails to meet the agreed timeline, the strike will resume. The association has given the government a four-week ultimatum to implement the outstanding commitments.
The strike had severely impacted healthcare services nationwide, with approximately 11,000 resident doctors across 91 teaching hospitals withdrawing their services. The Federal Government has assured that concrete steps are being taken to address the doctors’ concerns and restore normalcy in public hospitals.
