The Federal Executive Council (FEC) held an expanded special session on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja to honor the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. This meeting was part of the national mourning activities approved by President Bola Tinubu following Buhari’s passing on July 13, 2025. The special session served as a solemn platform for cabinet members, top government officials, and close associates to reflect on and pay tribute to Buhari’s life, service, and legacy.

In addition to the FEC meeting, a special prayer session was held on Friday, July 18, at the National Mosque in Abuja, in honor of the late President. This was part of the continued national outpouring of grief and tributes to Buhari’s memory. A special church service is also scheduled for Sunday, July 20, to further pay tribute to Buhari’s legacy.
