The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raided the Green Legacy Hotel inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and arrested 93 suspected internet fraudsters. The operation occurred during a pool party in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, following credible intelligence about the suspects’ involvement in internet crimes.
According to the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were arrested during a sting operation, and 18 vehicles and mobile devices were recovered from them. The suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
The raid comes barely five days after EFCC operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 55 suspected internet fraudsters, including one with two locally-made pistols, at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro area of Ogun State.
The EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the hotel without warning, prompting chaos and panic among guests. A viral video from the scene showed youths scampering for safety as gunshots rang out. Sources claim that over 20 luxury cars were seized during the operation, although the EFCC confirmed the recovery of 18 vehicles.
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details. An eyewitness, A. Ayomide, narrowly avoided the raid, stating that he left the venue around 1:30 am and later received calls about the EFCC operation. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the operation but promised to provide more details later.
