Fuel consumption in Nigeria dropped to 1.44 billion liters in June 2025, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). However, there seems to be a discrepancy in the reported percentage decrease, with some sources stating an 18% drop, while others report a 16.42% decrease.
The total fuel evacuation for June stood at 1,440,768,129 liters, representing a daily average evacuation of 48,025,604 liters. Daily fuel consumption averaged 48 million liters, correcting earlier reports that suggested a lower figure of 38.94 million liters.
A breakdown of fuel supply reveals that diesel, also known as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), saw a slight increase in supply by 1.73% to 432.18 million liters. However, distribution declined by 23.23% to 424.06 million liters. In contrast, Automotive Gasoline (petrol) dropped significantly by nearly 48% from 72.36 million liters in May to 37.66 million liters in June, with distribution falling by 16.54%.
Household Kerosene (HHK) supply and distribution both recorded a 13% decrease, with June figures at 7.79 million liters. The fuel distribution by state shows that Lagos received the highest volume at 205.66 million liters, followed by Ogun with 88.69 million liters, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 77.51 million liters, and Oyo with 72.81 million liters.
The decline in overall supply and distribution suggests continued challenges in the petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, impacting national fuel consumption patterns in June. NMDPRA has pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen distribution and guarantee uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.
