Rashidi Ladoja is set to be crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on September 26, 2025. The ceremony will take place at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, and is expected to attract dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
Governor Seyi Makinde has given formal approval for Ladoja’s installation, following consultations with the Olubadan-In-Council and relevant traditional institutions. This approval paves the way for the coronation, which promises to be a grand affair.
Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and respected statesman, has climbed through the 36 hierarchical steps of the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system over three decades. His ascension to the throne is seen as a culmination of his long-standing commitment to the traditional institution and the people of Ibadan.
A government delegation recently met with Ladoja and members of the Olubadan-In-Council at his Bodija residence to finalize arrangements ahead of the ceremony. Preparations are underway to ensure a colorful and well-attended event befitting the revered stool.
The coronation is expected to reinforce Ibadan’s cultural heritage, showcasing the city’s unity, history, and prominence in Yoruba land. It will be a celebration of the rich traditions and customs of the Ibadan people, and a testament to Ladoja’s leadership and dedication to his community.
