Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline, is set to launch direct flights from Lagos to Sao Paulo, Brazil, following a historic agreement between President Bola Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. This development is expected to strengthen economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
The agreement is part of a broader effort to enhance cooperation between the two countries. Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filhos, signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement to expand air connectivity and enhance people-to-people ties.
This move is expected to boost trade and investment between the two nations. The direct Lagos-Sao Paulo flight will provide greater convenience for travelers and open up new business and tourism opportunities. It will also reinforce President Tinubu’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s global partnerships.
In addition to the air services agreement, Nigeria and Brazil have signed several other agreements to deepen their cooperation. These include agreements on agriculture and investment cooperation, diplomatic training cooperation, and science, technology, and innovation partnership.
The agriculture and investment cooperation agreement was signed between Nigeria’s Bank of Agriculture and Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development. This agreement aims to expand agricultural financing, trade, and joint investment projects between the two countries.
The diplomatic training cooperation agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mauro Vieira. This agreement is aimed at deepening diplomatic collaboration between the two nations.
The science, technology, and innovation partnership agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, and Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos. This agreement covers areas such as biotechnology, ocean science, digital transformation, energy, and space development.
Overall, the launch of direct flights from Lagos to Sao Paulo is a significant development in the relationship between Nigeria and Brazil. It is expected to have a positive impact on trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries, and reinforce their commitment to cooperation and partnership.
