Ayodeji Akesinro, a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, Ondo State, was kidnapped on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at his residence in Upenme. Fortunately, he regained his freedom on Friday night, thanks to a rescue operation led by the Ondo State Police Command. The kidnappers, who struck at around 7 pm, forced Akesinro’s family and colleagues to hold their breaths in anxiety.
The National Union of Allied Health Professionals and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria demanded his immediate release, even threatening to stage a protest if he wasn’t freed. The union described Akesinro as a dedicated colleague and a senior labour leader.
Upon learning of the kidnapping, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, swiftly directed his team to track down the kidnappers and rescue Akesinro. A joint team of security agencies was deployed to comb the forests and engage with the local community to ensure Akesinro’s safe release. Lawal assured the public that every effort was being made to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
After a tense period, Akesinro was finally rescued unhurt, and his release was met with jubilation in Owo. His colleagues, church members, and residents expressed gratitude to God and appreciation for the security agencies’ efforts in securing his release. Details of the rescue operation remain sketchy, but it’s clear that the police and other security agencies played a crucial role in Akesinro’s safe return.
