A devastating building collapse occurred in the Yaba area of Lagos State, resulting in two fatalities and four rescued individuals. The incident happened around 8:30 pm on Friday, September 13, 2025, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, where a three-storey building under construction gave way, trapping several people under the rubble.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the collapse, with its Acting Head of Lagos Operations Office, Mrs. Ibitayo Adenike, stating that two male bodies were recovered from the site. Emergency responders, including NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Police Force, were deployed to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.
Four male adults were rescued alive and taken to the hospital for treatment, while the exact number of people still trapped under the rubble couldn’t be determined until the building is completely brought down to ground level. The Lagos State Fire Service reported that eight construction workers were rescued from the site, with some sources indicating that the rescued individuals are in stable condition.
The collapse has raised concerns about building safety in Lagos, where similar incidents have led to the loss of lives despite government monitoring and enforcement campaigns. The building collapse has prompted an investigation, with emergency responders working tirelessly to manage the crisis and assist those affected.
