57 New SANs to be Sworn in as Supreme Court Kicks Off 2025/2026 Legal Year

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will swear in 57 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on September 29, 2025, as the Supreme Court opens its 2025/2026 legal year. This ceremony marks the formal commencement of the new legal year and will feature several key events.
The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court in Abuja. The Chief Justice of Nigeria will deliver a State-of-the-Judiciary address, highlighting the performance of the Supreme Court and the Nigerian Judiciary in the previous legal year.
Other speakers include the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Their presentations will focus on the state of the justice sector, including pressing issues and required reforms.
The Supreme Court had gone on its annual vacation after a remarkably successful previous legal year. The 57 new SANs were approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, with the swearing-in ceremony being part of the events marking the formal commencement of the new legal year.
This event aims to highlight the performance of the Supreme Court and the Nigerian Judiciary, while also providing a platform for stakeholders to discuss pressing issues affecting the administration of justice and reforms required to strengthen the sector.
