A two-storey building collapsed on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, around 6 p.m. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other first responders quickly arrived at the scene and rescued six people, including one trapped victim, from the rubble.
The trapped victim, a 44-year-old man who lives on Olabode Street, sustained a fracture and multiple bruises. He was evacuated by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency unit, where he was admitted in stable condition. The other five rescued victims were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
The cause of the incident is currently unknown, and government officials have launched an investigation to determine the factors behind the collapse. This incident has reignited public concern over recurring building collapses in Lagos, with calls for stricter enforcement of building safety standards to prevent further loss of lives and property.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the incident, stating that LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued the victims. Omotoso added that the government would assess the structural integrity of buildings in the area to prevent similar incidents.
This recent collapse comes barely two weeks after four people lost their lives when a three-storey building caved in at No. 325 Bornu Street, Ebute Meta. In July, four people narrowly escaped death after a three-storey building collapsed along Adeniji-Adele Road in the Isale Eko area. These incidents highlight the need for urgent action to address the growing concerns over building safety in Lagos .
