Adams Oshiomhole, a former Edo State governor and senator, has expressed confidence that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi won’t stand a chance in the 2027 presidential election, whether they run together or separately. According to Oshiomhole, their past electoral performances are a testament to this assertion. He cited their 2019 joint ticket under the PDP and APC, where they were soundly defeated, as well as their separate bids in 2023.
Oshiomhole emphasized that history would repeat itself, and Atiku and Obi would meet the same fate if they teamed up again against President Bola Tinubu. He described Atiku as “a serial political contestant and loser” and questioned his credibility due to repeated electoral defeats. Oshiomhole also criticized Atiku’s frequent foreign trips, suggesting he lacks the consistency and grassroots connection required to win a presidential election.
The senator’s remarks are in response to speculations about a possible alliance between Atiku and Obi under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform. Despite their combined strength in the last election, where they secured over 12 million votes, Oshiomhole remains unconvinced about their prospects in 2027, asserting that President Tinubu’s leadership achievements and ongoing reforms would make it difficult for any opposition to unseat him.
Oshiomhole’s comments reflect the ruling party’s confidence ahead of the 2027 polls. He maintained that the APC remains the dominant political force in Nigeria, consistently defeating both Atiku and Obi, whether they contested together or separately. Political observers believe Oshiomhole’s statement could further intensify the political rivalry between the APC and opposition blocs as preparations for the next general elections gradually take shape.
