To qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Nigeria needs to fulfill specific conditions. The Super Eagles are currently in Group C of the CAF World Cup qualifiers, and the top team in each group will directly qualify for the World Cup. Here’s what Nigeria needs to do:
Nigeria must beat Benin Republic in their final group match. A win with a margin of two goals or more would significantly boost their chances of qualifying. Additionally, Nigeria needs South Africa to slip up in their final fixture against Rwanda, either by losing or drawing. If South Africa wins, Nigeria’s chances of automatic qualification would be severely diminished.
The Super Eagles’ recent 2-1 win over Lesotho has kept their hopes alive, but they still face an uphill battle. With only the group winners guaranteed a ticket to the World Cup, and the four best runners-up heading to the playoffs, every goal and point now matters.
The final group standings are crucial, and Nigeria’s goal difference will be important in determining their fate. If they beat Benin Republic by a large margin and South Africa drops points, Nigeria might be able to pip Benin Republic to the top spot in Group C.
