Vice President Kashim Shettima believes the recent wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) exposes cracks in the opposition’s camp. He stated this while welcoming Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, along with his cabinet members and thousands of supporters.
According to Shettima, the APC’s growth and appeal to visionary politicians demonstrate its strength and ability to accommodate divergent interests. He attributed the party’s success to President Bola Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style and emphasis on merit.
The Vice President noted that the defections weren’t accidental, but rather a reflection of the opposition’s weaknesses and the APC’s ability to provide a platform for patriotic Nigerians to contribute meaningfully. He urged Governor Mbah to rebuild the APC in Enugu State, leveraging his popularity and influence to strengthen the party’s grassroots foundations.
Shettima’s comments underscore the APC’s confidence in its growth trajectory, with the party’s national chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, welcoming Governor Mbah and praising President Tinubu’s leadership. The defection of Governor Mbah, a third-term governor, is seen as a significant boost to the APC, especially in the South East region, where the party has faced challenges in the past.
