The All Progressives Congress (APC) is projected to control at least 30 states in Nigeria before the end of 2027, according to Folorunso Aluko, Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF). Aluko emphasized that the party’s strategic posture is strengthening, with a focus on aligning messages with measurable impact. This projection is based on the party’s current growth trajectory and the defection of some opposition governors to the APC.
The APC currently controls 24 states, and Aluko expressed confidence that the party will expand its control to at least 30 states by 2027. He attributed this growth to the party’s commitment to building a Nigeria that works for all, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. Aluko urged commissioners to tell the Nigerian story with truth, amplify the people’s voice with empathy, and together, light the path of progress for every citizen.
This projection is further supported by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, who expressed confidence that the APC will expand its political dominance to 30 states before the 2027 general elections. Idris noted that the administration’s policies have fostered economic reforms, stabilized the naira, and encouraged inclusive governance across all sectors.
The APC’s growth is also attributed to the ongoing wave of defections from opposition parties, with some notable politicians joining the APC. For instance, a senator from Bayelsa state recently defected to the APC, citing the crisis-torn situation in his former party.
