The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned public universities to commence their 2025 admission processes immediately or risk losing their candidates to other institutions. According to JAMB, some public universities have failed to meet the September 30 deadline for submitting their first-choice admission recommendations, despite clear directives and ample time provided.
JAMB emphasized that institutions that fail to comply with the approved timelines will face strict consequences, including the automatic reassignment of unprocessed candidates to other institutions. The board has directed specific universities to begin their 2025 admission processes immediately, including Northwest University Kano, Nigeria Police Academy Wudil, Kano State University of Science and Technology Wudil, Benue State University Makurdi, Abdulkadir Kure University Minna, Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Oyo, and Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences Funtua.
These universities were part of a list of public institutions that JAMB warned for not submitting their admission recommendations through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the official platform for all tertiary admissions in Nigeria. JAMB reiterated that even if institutions are not ready to commence academic activities, they are still expected to process and archive their admissions in line with the approved schedule.
The board has set specific deadlines for various categories of tertiary institutions, with public universities required to complete their admissions by October 31, 2025, private universities by November 30, 2025, and polytechnics and colleges of education by December 31, 2025. JAMB emphasized its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and efficiency in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process, and warned that institutions failing to meet the deadlines will be penalized.
