The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, offering financial support to students in tertiary institutions nationwide. The application window is open from October 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026. According to NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, eligible students can apply for the loan to support their higher education.
To apply, returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions can visit the NELFUND portal. Fresh students can use either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number instead of a matriculation number when applying for the loan. Institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement.
NELFUND has also requested that institutions update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal. This step is essential for students to successfully apply and benefit from the scheme. Institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session should formally write to NELFUND with their approved academic calendar for scheduling flexibility.
The Fund has appealed to all institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed, ensuring no student loses access to education due to financial constraints. NELFUND appreciates the continued cooperation of tertiary institutions nationwide and seeks their further collaboration to ensure a smooth and inclusive loan process for all eligible students.
For further inquiries or technical support, institutions and students can reach NELFUND through its official communication channels, including email, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The agency’s website, (link unavailable), also provides relevant information and updates on the student loan application process.
