President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, sacking the service chiefs and appointing new ones. The affected positions include General Christopher Musa, who was relieved of his duty as Chief of Defence Staff, and other service chiefs who were also removed from their positions. Tinubu appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu takes over as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as the Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the new Chief of Naval Staff.
The new appointments take immediate effect, with President Tinubu charging the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and teamwork in their service to the nation. The president expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their commitment and patriotism during their tenure. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
