The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) over allegations of mismanaging $25 million in grants from FIFA and CAF between 2015 and 2025. According to Rep. Adedayo Adesola, the NFF allegedly used $1.2 million to construct a substandard stadium in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, which raises questions about the federation’s financial accountability.
The probe aims to scrutinize the NFF’s financial records and ensure transparency in the management of football development funds. Lawmakers are concerned that despite receiving substantial grants, Nigerian football infrastructure remains poor, and the country’s performance in international competitions has declined. Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has also accused the NFF of stifling football growth through misappropriation of funds.
The investigation will cover NFF’s financial records from 2015 to date, and officials are expected to appear before the investigative committee with relevant documents. This move is seen as an effort to restore accountability and transparency in Nigerian football management. The lawmakers are determined to get to the bottom of the alleged mismanagement and ensure that the funds are properly utilized for the development of football in Nigeria.
