The Super Eagles players are in a bit of a standoff with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over unpaid bonuses and allowances. The team boycotted training in Morocco, citing years of unpaid bonuses and allowances, just two days before their crucial World Cup playoff against Gabon. The players are seeking payment for bonuses and allowances dating back to 2019, and some are even owed money from previous qualification rounds.
Captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed that the issue remains unresolved, urging calm and dismissing false claims circulating online. He stated that the players are united in seeking what they describe as their “rightful request” from the football authorities.
This isn’t the first time the Super Eagles have taken a stand over unpaid entitlements. In 2014, they boycotted training in Brazil just before their Round of 16 match against France over unpaid bonuses. Similar incidents occurred in 2013, 2019, and 2025, highlighting a persistent issue with the NFF’s handling of player payments.
The NFF has yet to issue an official statement addressing the players’ protest or clarifying when the outstanding bonuses would be settled. With the Gabon match fast approaching, fans are hoping for a swift resolution to allow the team to focus on securing qualification for the World Cup.
