The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Angel Oyeghe, a self-proclaimed archbishop and founder of Faith Healing Ministry in Warri, Delta State, over a viral video showing church members spraying naira notes on a live cow during a service. The EFCC is investigating Oyeghe for conspiracy, naira mutilation, and suspected money laundering, which contravenes Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
According to the EFCC, Oyeghe has made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. The commission is also on the trail of arresting other suspects involved in the incident.
The incident has sparked widespread attention, with many Nigerians calling for strict action against those involved. The EFCC has been actively enforcing laws governing the handling of Nigeria’s currency, and this latest arrest is part of its efforts to protect the country’s financial integrity.
This isn’t the first time the EFCC has taken action against individuals for naira abuse. In 2024, socialite Cubana Chief Priest and cross-dresser Bobrisky were charged for spraying money at public events. The EFCC has warned Nigerians against such practices, emphasizing that the naira is a symbol of the country’s sovereignty.
The EFCC’s actions demonstrate its commitment to enforcing financial laws and regulations in Nigeria. The commission has urged Nigerians to report any suspicious activities, including naira abuse, to the relevant authorities.
