The PDP’s National Working Committee, now headed by Kabiru Turaki, officially handed out expulsion certificates to 11 big‑name members – think Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu and a handful of former governors and party officials. They say the certificates are just a formal way to tell INEC, the police, DSS and the rest that these folks are no longer PDP members, so anyone doing business with them does so at their own risk.
Turaki explained the move was meant to “sanitise” the party ahead of the 2027 elections and to stop any “dual‑membership” headaches. The certificates were couriered to each person, and the party even warned that public disclaimers will follow so the wider public knows who’s out.
The expulsions stem from the PDP’s November 15‑16 national convention in Ibadan, where the party’s highest decision‑making body ratified the removals for alleged anti‑party activities. The convention also saw the ousting of other chieftains like former governors and national officers, all under the banner of restoring discipline.
Not everyone’s on board, though. Some governors – Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau – have publicly rejected the expulsions, arguing the party didn’t follow proper procedure. Meanwhile, the Wike‑backed faction has filed lawsuits challenging the convention’s legitimacy, claiming the whole process was illegal.
On the legal front, the PDP is juggling a few court cases, including disputes over the closure of its offices at Legacy House and Wadata Plaza. Turaki’s team says they’re confident the law is on their side and that the expulsions will stand.
