Arsenal totally dominated Brentford at the Emirates, walking away with a 2‑0 win that stretched their Premier League lead to five points. Mikel Merino’s early header and a late strike from Bukayo Saka sealed the victory, giving Mikel Arteta’s side a comfortable cushion at the top of the table.
The first goal came just 11 minutes in – Ben White’s cross found Merino, who powered a header past Brentford keeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The Spaniard’s finish was the only goal of the night until Saka popped up in stoppage time, firing home after a brilliant assist from Merino to make it 2‑0.
Statistically, Arsenal were in a different class: they held 67 % possession, registered eight shots (seven on target) and created two big chances, while Brentford managed just three shots and one big chance. The Gunners also dominated corners 4‑4 but out‑muscleed their opponents in every key metric.
Injury news marred the celebration. Defender Cristhian Mosquera limped off, and midfield engine Declan Rice had to be substituted after a high‑energy display. Arsenal are also missing centre‑backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, leaving Arteta to shuffle the squad.
Arteta praised his players’ resilience despite the missing starters, noting that the squad depth has allowed them to stay strong. He highlighted Ben White’s solid performance at right‑back and the impact of the substitutes, especially Saka’s winner. The manager also reminded everyone that a tough trip to Aston Villa awaits this weekend.
With the win, Arsenal sit on 33 points from 14 games, five clear of second‑placed Manchester City. The Gunners will now look to keep the momentum on the road against Villa, while Brentford head to Tottenham for their next London derby.
