Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has relieved Michael Ango of his position as Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS). The announcement was made on Friday through a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media.
According to the statement, the decision takes immediate effect, and the most senior official of the FCT-IRS has been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency. While the reasons behind Ango’s removal weren’t disclosed, it’s seen as part of Wike’s efforts to reorganize revenue-generating institutions within the territory.
Ango, who hails from Kebbi State, was appointed Acting Chairman of FCT-IRS in August 2024 by President Bola Tinubu. He was known for his visionary leadership and efforts to transform the agency into a model revenue institution.
Wike’s administration has been focused on improving revenue generation and service delivery in the FCT. Just recently, the FCT-IRS began enforcement actions on over 1,095 property titles across Abuja for non-payment of statutory charges.
The move has sparked interest, given Wike’s reputation for driving reforms in the FCT. The minister has been vocal about tackling revenue leakages and enhancing the business environment in Abuja.
As the FCT-IRS transitions to new leadership, stakeholders are watching closely, hoping for continued improvement in revenue management and service delivery.
