Dangote has withdrawn its petition against Farouk Ahmed, former CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), but the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says the investigation will continue. The ICPC had been probing allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds against Ahmed, including spending over $7 million on his children’s education in Switzerland .
The allegations against Ahmed include abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement of public funds. Dangote had accused Ahmed of living above his legitimate means as a public servant and undermining domestic petroleum refining .
The ICPC has stated that the withdrawal of the petition does not halt its actions, citing Sections 3(14) and 27(3) of the ICPC Act, which allow the commission to continue investigations in the public interest.
Ahmed had resigned as CEO of NMDPRA shortly after Dangote’s petition, but the ICPC says his resignation does not affect the probe .
The ICPC had previously invited Dangote to appear before it to adopt his petition, but he failed to show up, citing a need for an adjournment.
The investigation is ongoing, with the ICPC committed to pursuing the matter in the interest of transparency, accountability, and fighting corruption .
