President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today, Monday, January 26, 2026, for a state visit to Türkiye, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Turkey. The visit is expected to focus on key areas such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation .
During his stay in Turkey, President Tinubu will engage in strategic political and diplomatic discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, centered on shared values in finance, communication, trade, and investment. The agenda will also include meetings between high-ranking officials of both nations and the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation, and protocol.
A business forum will bring together investors from both countries to explore areas of interest and potential collaboration. The Nigerian delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson, among others.
The visit is a reciprocal gesture following Turkish President Erdogan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021. Both countries have been working to deepen their bilateral ties, with recent discussions focusing on trade, security cooperation, and visa facilitation.
President Tinubu’s state visit aims to enhance cooperation in critical sectors and promote economic growth. The visit is expected to conclude with the signing of agreements and MoUs that will strengthen Nigeria-Turkey relations.
The Nigerian President is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit, having explored new avenues for collaboration and investment.
