President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate relief package for victims of the Kaiama attack in Kwara State, where over 160 residents were killed. The attack, carried out by suspected jihadist fighters, targeted villagers who rejected attempts to impose extremist rule.
The President gave the directive after meeting with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who briefed him on the attack details. Tinubu condemned the incident, describing it as a “cowardly and beastly attack.
The attack occurred in Woro village, Kaiama Local Government Area, and reports indicate that 75 males and 3 females were killed, while 35 residents were abducted. The victims were reportedly killed for refusing to abandon their moderate Islamic beliefs and adopt a violent extremist ideology .
Tinubu has deployed an army battalion to Kaiama under Operation Savannah Shield to stem further attacks and protect remote communities. The operation aims to stabilize the area, restore confidence among residents, and prevent future attacks.
The President expressed outrage that the attackers targeted defenceless civilians, including Muslims who rejected extremist indoctrination. He emphasized that Nigeria will not surrender to terrorism and extremism.
Governor AbdulRazaq visited the affected community, directing state emergency management agencies to provide humanitarian support to victims. He commended President Tinubu for approving military deployment to the area .
The federal government has assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice. The incident highlights concerns about jihadist factions expanding their reach from northern Nigeria into central regions.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for increased security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
