Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has submitted the names of nine commissioner-nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council. The nominees include Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr. Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Esq., Mr. Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree, Esq., and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi, has invited the nominees to submit 40 sets of their curriculum vitae, photocopies of credentials, and evidence of compliance with tax obligations to the office of the Clerk at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters.
This development follows the dissolution of the previous cabinet after a peace agreement in February 2026 between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. The submission of the nominees is part of efforts to reconstitute and expand the state cabinet amid ongoing political reconciliation efforts in the state .
Notably, none of the recently sacked commissioners were included in the latest list of nominees. The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed receipt of the list and will screen the nominees for confirmation .
The nominees bring diverse professional backgrounds in academia, law, and public service. Professor Datonye Alasia, for instance, is a notable figure in the medical field, having previously served as Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State chapter.
The screening process is expected to enable the nominees to join the Executive Council and support Governor Fubara’s administration in delivering governance across key sectors. More nominees are expected, as Rivers State has 23 local government areas.
The submission of the nominees comes after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the prolonged political face-off between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The President’s intervention led to the withdrawal of impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has not specified when the screening of the nominees will take place.
