President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with Oyedele’s wife by his side .
Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist, accountant, and public policy expert from Ikaram, Ondo State, brings over two decades of experience in taxation and public finance to his new role. He previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading efforts to simplify Nigeria’s tax system.
During the swearing-in ceremony, President Tinubu praised Oyedele’s dedication and determination, stating that he “fit the bill” for the challenging job. Tinubu also thanked Oyedele’s wife for supporting her husband and acknowledged Oyedele’s contributions to improving Nigeria’s tax policy.
Oyedele’s appointment is expected to reinforce the administration’s efforts to deepen fiscal reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s economic governance framework. He has a strong academic background, with a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Before joining the government, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He also serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.Oyedele’s experience and expertise are expected to drive Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
