The Niger State Government has announced the reconstruction of over 1,000 classrooms and the distribution of 120,000 chairs and desks to schools across the state as part of measures to enhance the quality of education and provide a better learning environment for students.
The government also disclosed that more than 100 solar-powered boreholes have been installed in schools, alongside the provision of modern toilet facilities aimed at improving access to water and sanitation while addressing open defecation within school premises.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Communication, Abdulberqy Ebbo, made this known in a statement issued in Minna, saying the interventions reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening basic and post-basic education in the state.
Ebbo stated that the government remains focused on ensuring that schools are properly equipped with necessary infrastructure and supported with qualified teachers to improve learning outcomes.
He explained that the impact of the projects was confirmed during an extensive assessment tour carried out by his team across beneficiary schools in the Zone A and Zone B Senatorial Districts of Niger State.
The monitoring exercise covered several local government areas, including Bosso, Edati, Gurara, Katcha, Lavun, Mokwa, Munya, Paikoro and Shiroro, as well as the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre in Minna.
Among the schools visited were JSS Birgi and DSS Shata in Bosso; GDSS Rokota and JSS Lenfa-Bororo in Edati; JSS Boysarki in Gurara; GGCC Katcha, JSS Edotsu and Gada Ereigi in Katcha; JSS Chari, GDSS Manbe and JSS Kutigi in Lavun.
Others included DSS Muregi, Gbajibo, Muwo, JSS Tyabo and Dunmi in Mokwa; DSS Guni and JSS Kuchi in Munya; GGSS Kaffin Koro in Paikoro; and several schools in Shiroro Local Government Area.
The Teachers’ Professional Development Centre in Minna was also inspected as part of the assessment exercise.
Ebbo assured that the state government would continue to prioritise investments in educational infrastructure and human capital development to provide pupils and students with improved facilities and better opportunities for learning across Niger State.
