The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has donated 50 bulletproof vests, 50 ballistic helmets and 100 raincoats to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft in Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity and safety of security personnel.
The equipment was presented at the NNS Beecroft headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, amid preparations by security agencies to enhance the protection of lives, property and critical infrastructure across the state, particularly ahead of the forthcoming election period.
The intervention is part of the LSSTF’s ongoing efforts to identify operational gaps within security formations and provide targeted support to improve their readiness to respond to emerging security challenges.
During the presentation, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, said the Trust Fund regularly visits security agencies across Lagos to assess their needs and determine areas requiring intervention.
Ogunsan said the latest donation included 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests and 100 raincoats, adding that additional areas of support identified during the visit would be addressed soon.
He stressed that the interventions were aimed at improving the effectiveness of security agencies and ensuring better protection for residents, particularly as the state approaches a sensitive election period.
In a related development, Ogunsan, alongside the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore Adams A. Aliu, paid a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, at the command’s headquarters in Apapa.
The visit focused on strengthening collaboration between the Navy and civil authorities and enhancing security and safety across Lagos and Nigeria.
Receiving the equipment, Commodore Aliu commended the LSSTF and the Lagos State Government for the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to the Navy’s internal security operations.
He said the equipment would support the Navy’s efforts to secure Lagos waterways and adjoining areas while strengthening its capacity to provide Military Aid to Civil Authority and Military Aid to Civil Power.
The latest intervention further highlights the LSSTF’s commitment to improving the operational readiness, personnel protection and overall effectiveness of security agencies across Lagos State.
