The Press Society (TPS) has urged young people in Nigeria and beyond to turn their aspirations for dignity, quality education, opportunities and a sustainable future into meaningful and responsible action.
The Society made the call as it commemorates International Youth Day 2026 today, Wednesday, August 12, under the global theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
TPS said the theme reflects the shared aspirations of young people worldwide for a better, more inclusive and sustainable future, despite differences in their social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
The Society urged young people to move beyond observing societal challenges and take active responsibility in finding solutions.
It also encouraged them to stay informed, reject misinformation, promote truth and justice, and use technology and artificial intelligence ethically and responsibly.
TPS further called on young people to use their voices, talents and platforms to create positive change in their communities, stressing that responsible citizenship is essential to building a peaceful and sustainable society.
“Whether you are a journalist, student, entrepreneur, professional, activist or community leader, your voice matters—and so does how you use it,” the Society said.
The Society urged young people to turn ideas into impact, aspirations into action and opportunities into solutions, while reaffirming its commitment to responsible media practice, community empowerment and youth development.
