The Edo State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers attached to the Okpella Police Division.
The investigation follows a viral social media video in which some young men alleged that they were arrested, accused of cultism, and allegedly forced to pay ₦1 million before they were released.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Patrick Daaor, has directed a thorough probe into the matter and ordered the officers allegedly involved to report to the Command Headquarters. The officers have reportedly been identified and invited for questioning.
The Police Command, through its Public Relations Office, has also invited the alleged victims to appear before the investigative team to provide details of their claims.
CP Daaor assured the public that allegations of misconduct, extortion, and abuse of power would be treated seriously, adding that any officer found guilty after investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Command reiterated its commitment to accountability and urged residents to report cases of harassment, unprofessional conduct, or extortion involving police personnel through the appropriate complaint channels.
