President Tinubu
Abayomi Bolatito
President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians living abroad to move beyond sending money home and begin investing strategically in Nigeria’s economy.
Tinubu made the call while declaring open the Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC) 2026 in Toronto, Canada, where he described Nigerians in the diaspora as important partners in national development.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said remittances have supported millions of Nigerian families but should serve as a starting point for deeper economic participation.
He encouraged diaspora Nigerians to invest in key sectors including technology, healthcare, agriculture, energy, housing and manufacturing, while calling for stronger investment networks with transparency and good governance.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also urged Nigerians abroad to see the country not only as home but as an investment destination.
Other speakers, including Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Olajumoke Oduwole, emphasised the need for increased investment to drive economic growth.
