The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the safe release of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Reverend Sister who were abducted in the Ifite-Awka area of the state.
The two victims were released today Saturday, August 15, 2026, and have since returned safely, according to the police.
The Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding their release and gather information that could assist in identifying those responsible for the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed security operatives to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down and apprehending the perpetrators.
The operation involves the police, Department of State Services, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Agunechemba security operatives and other relevant security agencies.
The police said the joint efforts were being strengthened as part of measures to improve security in the affected area and bring those behind the incident to justice.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in their investigation.
The police expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation and support, stressing that information from the public remains important to ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The safe return of the victims brings an end to their period in captivity, while security agencies continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
The Command has assured residents that efforts will continue to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
