MultiChoice Nigeria’s business has evolved beyond providing entertainment, with the company increasingly contributing to Nigeria’s creative economy through local content, talent development, technology and infrastructure, its Chief Executive Officer, Kemi Omotosho, has said.
Omotosho made this known while highlighting the company’s more than three decades of operations in Nigeria. According to her, MultiChoice has grown from a television service provider into part of a wider ecosystem involving producers, actors, production crews, dealers, installers and other small businesses.
She noted that while viewers primarily see the finished programmes on DStv and GOtv, a much larger network of people and businesses supports the industry behind the scenes.
The CEO also emphasised the importance of local investment to the company’s future, saying MultiChoice remains committed to producing content that reflects Nigerian stories, culture and experiences while helping local talent reach audiences across Africa and beyond.
The company’s investment in initiatives such as the MultiChoice Talent Factory and platforms including Big Brother Naija and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has continued to provide opportunities for creatives and showcase African talent.
Omotosho also identified piracy as a major threat to the creative industry, noting that its impact extends beyond MultiChoice to producers, actors and other professionals whose livelihoods depend on the commercial value of content. She said the company is working with relevant government agencies to support efforts to curb piracy.
Her comments come under MultiChoice’s new ownership structure following its integration into CANAL+ in September 2025. She said the relationship provides the Nigerian operation with access to greater international scale, technology, content and expertise while allowing it to maintain a strong understanding of the Nigerian market.
Omotosho said the company’s next phase would focus on combining global opportunities with its local knowledge and investment, with the broader goal of taking Nigerian talent, stories and creative products to wider audiences.
