Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hajia Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has engaged Ogun indigenes resident in Enugu as political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum.
Sowunmi-Kolapo was in Enugu in connection with the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) conference, where she also spoke on issues surrounding the electoral process and the need for greater confidence in the conduct of elections.
During her engagements in the state, the PDP candidate interacted with Ogun indigenes and supporters, with discussions focusing on the forthcoming election and the political direction of Ogun State.
The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to discuss their expectations for the 2027 election and the role of voters in determining the leadership of the state.
Sowunmi-Kolapo has consistently called on eligible voters in Ogun State to participate actively in the electoral process, protect their votes and resist intimidation. She has also expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the state.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NGE conference in Enugu on Thursday, she said the PDP was confident of winning the 2027 Ogun governorship election, while stressing the importance of credible elections and effective electoral institutions.
She argued that transparent elections would help reduce post-election disputes and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen preparations ahead of the polls.
According to Sowunmi-Kolapo, voters in Ogun State are increasingly conscious of their role in the electoral process and would take steps to ensure that their votes count.
The PDP deputy governorship candidate is running alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. She was unveiled as the party’s deputy governorship candidate in June 2026.
The meeting with Ogun indigenes in Enugu comes as political parties and their candidates intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections, with issues surrounding voter participation, electoral transparency and accountability expected to remain central to the campaign season.
