Fidelity Bank Plc has continued its drive to support food security and vulnerable households in Nigeria with the distribution of 2,500 food packs to residents across eight communities in Uromi, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative and took place at the Uromi Town Hall, where beneficiaries received essential food items aimed at providing immediate relief and supporting household welfare.
Speaking during the distribution, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflected the bank’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where it operates.
Nwagboh explained that the programme was not only about providing food but also about strengthening families and helping communities cope with the challenges associated with food insecurity.
“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” he said.
According to him, the intervention supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
He added that the Uromi distribution was structured to cover eight communities and provide timely assistance to households experiencing food-related challenges.
Nwagboh further disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, in partnership with 19 organisations across the country.
Representing Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, commended Fidelity Bank for extending the initiative to communities in Uromi.
Uwangue noted that corporate organisations had an important role to play in supporting communities, particularly as households contend with rising demands on their resources.
He described the intervention as a demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity, urging other organisations to emulate the bank by supporting the communities where they operate.
The beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the food supplies would provide much-needed relief and help reduce the pressure of feeding their families.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank is one of Fidelity Bank’s major Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, designed to address hunger and malnutrition while providing assistance to communities affected by food insecurity.
Since its launch, the programme has delivered more than 300,000 food packs to beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
