The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has called on Nigerians to embrace responsible citizenship and contribute positively to the development and security of the country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Ojajuni made the call as Nigerians across the country commemorate the October 1 independence anniversary, urging citizens to recognise their responsibilities in building a peaceful, secure and prosperous nation.
The police commissioner stressed the importance of citizens working together with security agencies and other stakeholders to maintain peace and stability, particularly at a time when the country continues to confront various social and security challenges.
He urged Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism by obeying the law, respecting one another and providing useful information to relevant authorities when necessary.
According to him, national development cannot be achieved by government and security agencies alone, as citizens also have an important role to play in creating a safe and orderly society.
Ojajuni’s message comes amid broader calls across Ogun State and other parts of the country for Nigerians to take greater responsibility for national development as the country reflects on 66 years of independence.
The Ogun State Government has similarly encouraged citizens to promote peace, tolerance, honesty and responsible citizenship as part of the Independence Anniversary activities.
The Commissioner of Police also reiterated the commitment of the Ogun State Command to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order across the state.
He called on residents to support efforts aimed at strengthening security and to avoid actions capable of undermining peace and public safety.
As Nigeria celebrates another year of independence, the call for responsible citizenship highlights the need for citizens and institutions to work together towards a more peaceful and secure society.
