A 55-year-old motorist has escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos, following a swift rescue operation by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security personnel.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026, involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.
The collision left the vehicle extensively damaged, but the driver survived without any reported injuries. No casualty was recorded at the scene.
Following the incident, LASTMA operatives and security personnel worked together to rescue the driver and remove the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, allowing the train to continue its journey towards Agege.
Despite the successful clearance of the tracks, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis, disrupting vehicular movement along the affected route.
The damaged vehicle was subsequently handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their prompt response and coordinated efforts in managing the incident.
He emphasised the importance of cooperation among emergency responders, noting that effective coordination and timely intervention are essential to managing emergencies involving railway operations and adjoining road infrastructure.
Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors.
He warned drivers against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion, stressing that disregard for railway safety regulations could result in serious consequences.
LASTMA further appealed to motorists and other road users to obey established traffic rules and railway safety guidelines to prevent avoidable accidents.
The agency reiterated that protecting human life must remain a priority and encouraged road users to exercise vigilance and sound judgment when approaching railway crossings.
