The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between the police and professional institutions to improve public safety, strengthen public confidence and promote effective policing.
Ojajuni made the call at the annual signature event of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), tagged Owanbe Nite, held in Abeokuta.
The event, themed “Ariya Galore: Celebrating the Spirit of Oneness,” was organised under the leadership of the chapter’s Chairperson, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye.
The police commissioner, who has been a member of the NIPR since 2005, highlighted the importance of professional public relations practice in modern policing, particularly in promoting credible information, public enlightenment and constructive relationships between the police and members of the public.
He noted that effective communication and meaningful stakeholder engagement were essential to building trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
A major highlight of the gathering was the unveiling of the latest edition of the chapter’s flagship magazine, The Image Maker, which showcases its activities, policies, achievements and contributions to the development of public relations practice.
The publication also provides a platform for discussing contemporary issues and promoting professional development and responsible communication.
Also present at the event was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Delta State Police Command, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside other prominent personalities and senior public relations practitioners.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated that public safety requires collective efforts beyond conventional security institutions, stressing the importance of partnerships with professional associations, civil society organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
Ojajuni reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening these relationships and leveraging their expertise, networks and influence to prevent crime, improve public confidence and sustain a safer environment across Ogun State.
He maintained that continuous engagement and cooperation among stakeholders remain essential to effective policing and lasting security.
