Tosin Adarabioyo, a Chelsea football player, recently visited Nigeria for the first time and expressed feeling a deep connection to his roots. Born to Nigerian parents in London, Adarabioyo described the moment he stepped off the plane at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport as “very special”. He felt a sense of calmness and belonging, stating, “As soon as you touch down and you step off the plane, you automatically feel that calmness, that you’re at home, you breathe the air, you just feel, it felt very special”.
During his visit, Adarabioyo paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ahead of the Tosin Adarabioyo Youth Cup, a grassroots football tournament aimed at inspiring and empowering local talent. The tournament features four teams: 36 Lion FC, Mavilon FC, Seamoriow Football Academy, and a Lagos State Football Association-selected side.
Adarabioyo’s international future remains uncertain, with possibilities of representing either England, for whom he played at youth levels, or Nigeria, the country of his parents. He emphasized that he hasn’t made a final decision yet, stating, “It’s something I still think about. We’ll see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision”.
The Chelsea defender’s visit to Nigeria has generated excitement among football fans, who see him as a valuable addition to the Super Eagles. His participation in the youth tournament is expected to inspire a new generation of players.
