The wife and father of late gospel singer Toluwanisings have signed a peace undertaking with the Oyo State Police Command following disagreements over his burial arrangements.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday at the police command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, after the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, invited the parties for an intervention aimed at resolving the dispute and preventing a breakdown of public peace.
According to the police, the disagreement, which came to its attention on October 28, involved allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character and conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace.
Those who signed the undertaking include the singer’s wife, Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Muniru Olayemi; and some of his friends and associates, including Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Lawal Ademola Rafiu. His personal assistant and other representatives were also present.
The dispute reportedly centred on where the late singer should be buried. His father was said to have proposed that he be laid to rest at the house he built or beside his late mother in Osun State, while his wife reportedly opposed the proposed arrangements.
The undertaking also requires all parties to refrain from granting interviews, making public statements or participating in discussions capable of worsening the situation. They further agreed to stop circulating information, allegations and publications relating to the dispute through social media, newspapers, radio, blogs and other communication platforms.
The agreement also extends to their representatives, associates and proxies, who are expected to refrain from sponsoring, promoting or sharing content that could reignite the disagreement.
The Commissioner of Police warned that all parties must strictly adhere to the agreement, cautioning against using the singer’s death to promote hostility or spread unverified allegations. He added that anyone found engaging in conduct that violates applicable laws would be arrested and prosecuted.
The police also appealed to members of the public, bloggers and media practitioners to exercise restraint and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of escalating tensions.
Toluwanisings died in Ibadan on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping at his residence. His death generated public controversy following allegations that several hospitals declined to attend to him while efforts were being made to secure emergency medical attention.
His personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, had alleged that the singer was taken to seven or eight hospitals before his death. However, the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, stated that it had no record confirming that he was brought to the facility.
The police intervention is aimed at preventing further escalation of the disagreement as the parties work towards resolving issues surrounding the late singer’s burial.
