Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to victims of the recent attacks in Benue State, specifically in the Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area. The donation, made through her Renewed Hope Initiative, aims to support displaced families in rebuilding their lives. The ₦1 billion donation was presented to Governor Hyacinth Alia and state officials during a condolence visit to Benue State.
The funds will help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life. The Renewed Hope Initiative’s motto, “Towards a Better Life for Families,” aligns with the donation’s purpose. The attacks in Yelwata community resulted in over 100 deaths and many injuries, prompting the First Lady’s visit and donation.
Mrs. Tinubu urged citizens to reconcile and rebuild together, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, patience, and peaceful coexistence. She highlighted the need for collective effort to address the challenges facing the nation and promote unity. The Benue State Governor and traditional leaders called for the establishment of state police and adoption of ranching as a national policy to curb farmer-herder conflicts.
