Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has made a significant contribution to the state’s infrastructure by donating 102 electric transformers to 435 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across Ogun State. This gesture is part of his initiative tagged “Light Up Ogun State,” aimed at improving electricity supply in communities nationwide, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The donation, which marks a significant milestone in the senator’s 56th birthday celebration, saw 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Ogun State benefit from the scheme. These LGAs include Yewa North, Ado Odo Ota, Yewa South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Ewekoro, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Ipokia, Ijebu North East, Ikenne, Ijebu East, Remo North, Abeokuta South, and Ijebu North.
The transformers, with capacities ranging from 500kVA/33, 500kVA/11, 300kVA/33 to 300kVA/11, were distributed based on the needs of the beneficiary communities. Senator Adeola facilitated the energy infrastructure because his office was inundated with several requests for transformers following his periodic donation of transformers to communities over the years.
The senator expressed joy in bringing light to various homes and businesses through the provision of transformers and their energization. He noted that this facilitation is an ongoing process, as there are still many more communities in darkness due to damaged or inadequate energy infrastructure. Adeola pledged to continue addressing these challenges that are already compiled in his office.
In addition to the provision of transformers, the “Light Up Ogun State” project also involves the provision and installation of solar power street lights along streets, markets, communities, and palaces. Over 16,500 poles have been installed so far across Ogun West senatorial district and beyond.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, disclosed that the birthday celebration was organized by friends and core supporters of Senator Adeola to celebrate his accomplishments. The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and Commissioner of Housing in the state, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, expressed delight that friends and supporters of the senator could come together to honor him and appreciate his unprecedented performance in the National Assembly.
