The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in Kwara State, Nigeria, has made a groundbreaking achievement by unveiling its first indigenous electric vehicle, named OKIN EV1. This innovative vehicle is a testament to the institution’s commitment to research and development, showcasing Nigeria’s potential for technological advancement and creativity.
The OKIN EV1 is powered fully by electricity and complemented with a solar-energy feature, enabling it to cover an impressive 125 kilometers on a single charge. This range is equivalent to a round trip from Offa to Ilorin, highlighting its potential for practical use in both urban and rural areas. The vehicle is equipped with modern features such as a touchscreen display for real-time monitoring and control, a reverse camera for enhanced safety, and a solar-powered extension system to prolong driving hours.
The development of the OKIN EV1 is a remarkable achievement, considering it was designed and built in under six months by a dedicated research and engineering team led by Engr. Dr. Olufemi Oluseye Kehinde. This project demonstrates the ingenuity and expertise of Nigerian engineers and highlights the potential for innovation in the country’s educational institutions.
