Tunde Bakare, the founder of Citadel Global Community Church, has revealed that he’s under intense pressure from political stakeholders to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Several prominent figures, including a former governor and minister from the South-West, have approached him to align with the party. Even some of his younger political associates who benefited from holding key offices in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have urged him to lend his influence to the ADC.
Despite the mounting pressure, Bakare has categorically stated that he won’t be joining the ADC. He likened the party to a plane that crashed, wishing them well while emphasizing the need for a robust opposition. According to him, the emergence of President Bola Tinubu was guided by divine providence, and he won’t undermine the party he helped create.
Bakare’s refusal to join the ADC stems from his commitment to the APC, which he helped form. He cautioned against repeating the mistakes of the past, referencing the historical rivalry between Awolowo and Akintola in the South-West. His stance reflects a growing sentiment among Nigerians disillusioned with endless defections and recycled political faces.
Bakare emphasized the need for a robust opposition while prioritizing unity and ideological commitment in politics. He remains committed to the APC, and his decision is seen as a testament to his loyalty to the party he helped build.
