President Bola Tinubu has submitted several key appointments to the Senate for confirmation, covering four major federal agencies. These appointments aim to strengthen leadership and efficiency in critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy.
The nominees include Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramal as Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), alongside Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashaun as Commissioner for Finance Management Services. For the National Population Commission (NPC), Tinubu nominated Agbaje Opeyemi Olukoye as Chairman, representing the South-West, and several commissioners, including Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonge Betara Bularafa from Yobe State.
Additionally, Tinubu requested the confirmation of Louis Odion as Commissioner for Operations and Ummueelm Isiyaku Rabiu as Commissioner for Corporate Services at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). For the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the nominees are Bello Abubakar Wammako from Sokoto State, Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha from Borno State, Senator Marafa Bashir Abba from Taraba State, Ahmed Waziri Hassan from Adamawa State, Bob Helen Inafe from Bayelsa State, and Gboyega Oladele from Osun State.
Tinubu also sought the Senate’s confirmation for Mr. Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund. These appointments are part of the President’s efforts to enhance institutional stability and effectiveness across key economic and regulatory agencies in Nigeria. The Senate has referred the requests to various committees for review and confirmation.
The President’s nominees are expected to bring expertise and experience to their respective roles, driving growth and development in Nigeria’s economy. The appointments require Senate confirmation, as per constitutional provisions governing federal appointments. Tinubu expressed confidence in the competence of the nominees and urged the Senate to give the requests expeditious consideration .
