The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the immediate closure of 41 Unity Schools across the country due to rising security concerns, particularly the recent wave of student abductions. This decision was announced by the Federal Ministry of Education, citing the need to prevent further security breaches and protect students and staff.
The affected schools are located in various states, primarily in the North-West, North-East, North-Central, and parts of the South. The list includes institutions such as FGGC Minjibir, FGA Suleja, FTC Ganduje, and FGGC Zaria, among others.
This move comes after a series of attacks on schools, including the kidnapping of students from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger State, and another incident in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were abducted. President Bola Tinubu has cancelled planned trips to South Africa and Angola to focus on addressing the growing security issue.
The government has assured that the safety of students and staff remains a top priority, and security agencies are working to address the emerging threats. Parents and guardians have been advised to evacuate their children, and school authorities are expected to enforce safety protocols.
