Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia, has announced her resignation from Congress, effective January 5, 2026, following a public feud with President Donald Trump. The clash between Greene and Trump began when Greene pushed for the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, which Trump opposed.
Greene, a staunch supporter of Trump and the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement, had criticized Trump for prioritizing foreign policy over domestic issues, such as healthcare and inflation. Trump responded by withdrawing his endorsement of Greene and calling her a “traitor” and “ranting lunatic.
In her resignation letter and video message, Greene expressed feelings of betrayal and frustration, stating that she had “always represented the common American man and woman” and that Trump’s actions had made it impossible for her to continue in Congress. Greene also cited security threats and sustained political pressure as reasons for her resignation.
Trump reacted to Greene’s announcement, saying it’s “great news for the country” and implying that she’s making a mistake. Greene’s resignation will narrow the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and potentially impact the party’s chances in the upcoming midterm elections.
