Adeleke’s emergence as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate has been challenged by a faction of the party. According to reports, the faction claims that Adeleke’s entry and emergence as the party’s candidate are invalid.
The challenge is reportedly based on the party’s internal disputes and issues with its leadership. The Accord Party has been experiencing internal conflicts, with two factions claiming to be the legitimate leadership. The faction challenging Adeleke’s emergence is reportedly aligned with Professor Chris Imumolen, who was recognized by the court as the authentic National Chairman.
Despite these challenges, Adeleke’s emergence as the party’s candidate has been confirmed by the party’s leadership, led by Maxwell Mgbudem, who presented him with the certificate of return. Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant, secured 145 votes out of 150 delegates, with five votes declared invalid.
Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join Accord, has vowed to continue his work for the people of Osun State. He unveiled an upgraded five-point agenda, focusing on integrated citizens’ and workers’ welfare, infrastructure consolidation, agro-industrial expansion, innovation-driven improvements, and a better business environment.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to take place on August 8, 2026. Adeleke’s emergence as Accord’s candidate marks a significant development in the state’s political landscape, with implications for the upcoming election.
It’s worth noting that Adeleke’s defection and emergence as Accord’s candidate have sparked controversy, with some analysts questioning the timing and motivations behind his move. However, Adeleke has maintained that his decision was driven by a desire to continue serving the people of Osun State ⁵.
